On being cool parents

Parents can be as broke as a church mouse, but they’ve got to keep their cool. A hot-tempered parent is a kid’s worst nighmare. It’s a recipe for a lifetime of self-doubt, cowardice, and the crippling fear of ever asking for anything. These kids grow up thinking they’re a burden, too scared to speak up for themselves, or even complain when they’ve been wronged. It’s like training a dog to roll over and play dead.

父母可以穷得叮当响，但绝对不能火冒三丈。脾气暴躁的父母是孩子一辈子的噩梦，这会把孩子培养成一个自卑胆怯，不敢表达自己，害怕麻烦别人，更不敢为自己争取利益的可怜虫。有时候，他们甚至吃了亏也不敢吭声，生怕惹恼别人。这简直跟训练一条狗乖乖躺下等死有什么区别？
